That is,
I worship NI and LabVIEW.
At first I was skeptical thinking maybe I only liked it because of the money. But now, after finding out the standard of other normal japanese companies and what happens there, I could not but feel lucky. It's not just that though. I discovered the other day that I was also lucky that I even got into the company.
Here's what happened; last year when I was applying for NI, after succeeding in passing my interviews, I and 4 or 5 other candidates were invited for dinner to congratulating candidates for being given a job offer. I being really oblivious, rocked up there feeling relaxed and thinking how easy it was. I signed the contract that they gave me a week after the dinner and I was certain that I was fully in. I should have realised when I found out that none of the other candidates who applied with me are in NI now, but this dinner that they always have after selecting some people is the REAL final interview. It is indeed very deceitful considering the fact that the "final" interview that they mention is with the head manager of NI Japan! I was completely overwhelmed when I heard this from my senior just the other day.
Returning to how lucky I am in terms of working conditions, I heard from several of my friends and workmates that there are 'Black companies' in Japan where people work from morning until almost midnight (like quite literally) without being paid much over time. If you add that with Japanese hierarchy bs, I can understand why suicide rates are so high and why Japan is the only country where people die from overworking.
Of course though, you can't compare with Aussie companies seen as Aussie people are on there car to go home at 5pm instead of finishing at 5. Not to mention the countless number of breaks that they have too. Albeit I found one aspect of NI that made them more 'laid back' than Australian companies. On halloween day, we were allowed to dress up at work provided we don't walk out with it.
I will say no more about LabVIEW besides that it is powerful beyond imagination. (I must sound like a person believing in some weird cult or religion.)
Completely changing topic, I applied for a JAL VISA credit card a couple of weeks ago and it still hasn't reached my postbox. Since I want to save up miles to go back to Australia for free, I don't really want to shop in cash so as a result I haven't been able to buy anything substantial yet since my first pay. I need to buy a bicycle to save up on transport fees and get fit and I still haven't bought myself a PS3 for my entertainment. I also wanted a laptop but I decided to wait a bit for a new model of apple.
May and Lisa are coming to Japan this friday woot. Something to look forward to since my social life over here isn't as fulfilling as the one I had in Brissie. Expect a blog for that as well.
I certainly do blabber on when I blog >_>. I think it might be because I don't blog often so I have a lot to say. It's just that I'm always too lazy to initiate. Meh this should do. Time to end my day with a dose of sleep.
